VISION AND MISSION

VISION : Nawakamal Mitra Semesta Foundation aims to support and empower PwMD (People with Mental Disorder/Illness) and their families to improve their quality of life and the inclusion, participation and rights in all aspects of social life. 

Discussion with local village cadres on how to make identification and
local data on people with mental disorder in their village using special form of
identification. This discussion held in a viilage of Temon, District Kulonprogo,
Yogyakarta Province, Indonesia

MISSION: 1) Improving the quality of life of PwMD and their families through better basic rehabilitation services; 2) Strengthening the capacity of caregivers and village cadres in providing basic services, good communication, and monitoring the progress of PwMD; 3) Develop and strengthen SHG (Self Help Group) or “Peer to Peer” inclusive groups of persons with disabilities, families, and non-PwMD to increase good socialization, reduce stigma and other activities; 4) Strengthening the economic income of PwMD and or their families; 5) Developing and strengthening a village government that has a good understanding of mental health issues and the needs of PwMD and accommodates these issues in the Annual Village Development Program and Budgeting (APBDes); 6) Conducting policy advocacy, disability rights, promote the inclusion and rights as equal citizens.

Doing regular home visits by the staff of Nawakamal Foundation
or local cadre is important to encourage the families of people with mental
 disorder, monitoring the progress of the activity of the person, and or
 just listening to the family problems and hope.

OUR PROGRAM:

1) CBR Program: Develop Community Based Rehabilitation Program for people with mental disorder and their families.

2) Training Program: We develop training and or workshop programs for various CBR program actors starting from the village level to the level of government institutions at the district and provincial levels, including members of the House of Representatives (district and provincial level).

3) SHG (Self Help Group) Development and Income Generating Program: Most of the PwMD and their families in the village are in extreme poverty condition. We develop economic income generating through the development of their skills, income generating groups, and capital support.

4) Youth mental wellness empowerment: Starting in early November 2023 we are developing school based mental wellness for youth, starting in 4 junior high schools in Yogyakarta City and 8 junior high schools in Kulonprogo District

5) Awareness and advocation: We tirelessly rise awareness and advocation to all levels of society and government institutions at the village up to district and provincial levels in community mental health issues, rights of PwMD, and reducing stigma.

Wardah (31), a woman with schizophrenia is supported by Nawakamal
to develop her income-generating activity. She would like to have a little
business on snacks that will be for sale in some preliminary schools surrounding
her home. She has been supported with a gas stove, freezer, fryer, etc

His name is Aqil, a student at SLTPN-7 (junior high school) in Yogyakarta City,
one of the young leaders at his school and has received training on school
based mental wellness for the youth from the Nawakamal Foundation
on 4-7 September 2023.
